First, you must have a verified user account and the file* of the work you want to register on your device.  

*Any file format that contains a copy of the work or provides sufficient identification of it. (PDF, DOC, TXT, ODT, MIDI, WAV, MPG, AVI, sheet music, MP3, JPG, SWF, etc.) The current file size limit for each upload is 2 GB.

Log in to your account and go to the "Works" tab.  

To register a single work, click directly on "+ New registration". If you want to register multiple works at once, click on the dropdown menu to the right and select "Register multiple works".

a) To register a single work

Step 1: Creation data

- Select the category and type of work.  

- Enter the title.  

- Optional: Add an excerpt, description or tags.  

- Indicate whether AI was used in the creative process.  

- Indicate whether the work might be interpreted as reflecting real events, even if it does not.

Step 2: Allowed uses

- Indicate your rights reservation: All rights reserved or only some (e.g., Creative Commons).  

- Indicate whether or not you allow AI training with your work.  

- Choose whether the registration information will be public or not.

Step 3: Authorship and rights

- Indicate whether you are the author or, if not, whether you hold other rights.  

- You may add co-authors by clicking the "Add inscription" button.

Step 4: Content file / Add the file with your creation

- Select the file that contains or represents your work. Drag and drop it or upload it from your device.  

- You may also register from a web link, Google Drive, or Google Photos, but only one file at a time.  

- You can now complete the registration or save it as a draft if you want to edit it later.

b) To register multiple works at once

Step 1: Creations data

- Select the category and type of works.  

- Optional: Add a summary or description, and tags common to all works.  

- Indicate whether AI was used in the creative process.  

- Indicate whether the works might be interpreted as representing factual events, even if they do not.

Step 2: Allowed uses

- Indicate your rights reservation: All rights reserved or only some (e.g., Creative Commons).  

- Indicate whether or not you allow AI training with your works.  

- Choose whether the registration information will be public or not.

Step 3: Authorship and rights

- Indicate whether you are the author or, if not, whether you hold other rights.  

- You may add co-authors by clicking the "Add inscription" button.

Step 4: Content files / Add the files with your creations

- Select the files that contain or represent your works. Drag and drop them or upload from your device.  

- You may also register from a web link, Google Drive, or Google Photos.

Step 5: Titles of the creations

- Enter the titles manually or use the uploaded file names.  

- You can now complete the registration or save it as a draft if you want to edit it later.

When registering a work on Safe Creative, you will need to select a category that best represents your creation. This selection is advisory and does not affect the validity of the registration proof, but it helps to identify and contextualize your work.

Remember that the choice of category is simply an aid to better identify and organize your work. All registrations enjoy the same legal protection, regardless of the category selected.

Here is an explanation of the available categories, along with examples to help you decide which is most suitable:

1- Literary 

This category covers all types of literary texts and writings. Examples include:

• Article: Magazine publications, opinion pieces.
• Narrative, Essay: Short stories, novels, literary essays.
• Technical: Manuals, academic or technical training materials.
• Educational, Informamative: Manuals, academic or technical training materials.
• Comic: Comics, graphic novels.
• Script: Scripts for comics, film, or theater.
• Reserch papers, Thesis, Lecture Notes: Academic works, such as graduate theses or class notes.
• Other: Any literary work that does not fit into the above subcategories, such as song lyrics.

2- Audio-visual 

This refers to visual works involving movement and sound. Examples include:

• Feature Film, Medium-Length Film, Short Film, TV film, Serial, Soap opera: Film and television productions created by established production companies.
• TV Formats and Similar: Programs, talk shows, TV formats.
• Audiovisual Recording: Music videos, event recordings, etc.

3- Audio 

This category is for works related to sound creation and audio recordings. Examples include:

• Music: Musical compositions, songs, instrumental tracks.
• Podcast: Online radio shows, storytelling in podcast format.
• Other: Any audio work that does not fit into the above subcategories.

4- Visual Arts 

This section includes works expressed through images and visual formats. Examples include:

• Drawing, Painting: Visual artworks such as paintings, sketches, logos.
• Photography: Images of any kind taken with a camera.
• Choreography and Drama: Performances, choreography.
• Electronic pages and Multimedia: Websites, interactive multimedia content.
• 3D Models: Three-dimensional creations such as sculptures or software models.
  
• Sculpture: Three-dimensional creations such as sculptures or software models.
• Other: Any visual work that does not fit into the above subcategories.

5- Others

This category is for works that do not clearly fit into the other categories. Examples include:

• Architecture and Engineering: Blueprints, structural designs.
• Software and Database Design: Applications, computer programs, databases.
• Scale Model: Physical representations of designs, prototypes.
• Fashion: Clothing design, fashion collections.
• Unclassified: Works that do not correspond to the subcategories mentioned above.

Authorship:

You should declare yourself as an author when you have personally created the original work (text, photograph, music, etc.). Authorship always belongs to individuals (natural persons) and never to companies or entities.

If you frequently register your own works as an author, the Personal Plan is recommended, allowing unlimited registrations of authorship.

Rights Ownership:

You should declare yourself as a rights holder when you have acquired economic or related rights over a work created by another person (e.g., rights transferred through a contract). Companies or organizations cannot be authors, but they can hold rights acquired from authors.

For frequent registrations of rights ownership (related or economic rights), the Business Plan is recommended, providing unlimited registrations for companies and organizations.

Why can't companies declare themselves as authors?

Companies cannot be authors because, legally, authorship is restricted to natural persons (individuals). Companies or organizations must declare acquired rights through assignments, contracts, or transfers of rights.

How to Register Co-authorship

There are two possible ways to register multiple authorship of a work:

A.- When each co-author must accept the invitation from the person who first registers the work.

The user who has completed the registration sends invitations to the other authors to register their co-authorship.
They can make individual payments for each additional registration or unlimitedly if they have a subscription.

Steps to follow:

1.- On the work's record, select "Register" and scroll down to "Authorship and Rights".
2.- Click on "Invite to Register Rights".
3.- Enter the email addresses of the co-authors. If they do not have a Safe Creative account, they will be asked to register for free.
4.- Specify whether the co-authors will have access to the editing functions of the record.
5.- Click on "Request Registration"

Safe Creative will send an email to each of the co-authors with a link to confirm their authorship, which will appear—once confirmed—in the registration information of the work.

Important: For the invitations to be sent, the registration must be finalized.

To send co-authorship invitations for several works at once, you can select all the works on the registration page and mark "Manage Selected". The procedure is the same, from the option "Invite to Register Rights".

B.- When a user declares on behalf of others who authorize them.

Informed Registration: If the registration is made as an authorized manager, representing the co-authors (who may not have a subscription contracted in Safe Creative). This type of registration has an additional cost in "personal subscriptions" or up to 200 can be made in Business subscriptions.

How to Register a Creative Piece or Draft

You can certify creative pieces or drafts in two ways:

A) Log in to your account and click "New Registration." Choose whether it is a work or a creative piece (draft).

Steps:

Step 1: Upload File
Upload or drag the file from your device and click "Continue."

Step 2: Fill Out Details
Name it, select a folder, optionally add a description, and click "Add."

Step 3: Confirm

B) Go to the "Works" section within your account and click on the "Drafts and creative pieces" tab.

• Upload the creative piece file or drag it from your device to the screen, then click "Save."
• For texts, click the "Write Text" button, enter your text, and then click "Save" directly from your account.

In this case, the blog acts as a publishing platform, like any other, where one or several authors can publish different "posts" that do not necessarily have the same license. It is possible that the author publishes a work on the blog and later publishes it in a magazine, book, or disk in the future.

You can register the publications of your blog in three different ways:

1. Manual registration: Before publishing each entry on your blog, you must have prepared the file of the work you wish to register on your device (PC, computer, tablet, or phone). Once registered on Safe Creative, you can proceed to publish it on your blog.
2. With the URL: Immediately after publishing an entry on your blog, you can perform a manual registration without the need to provide a file. You simply have to provide the URL of the article and our system will take a PDF snapshot of the web page.
3. Automated registration via feed: If you wish to automatically register all the publications of your blog, you can use registration via feed. This implies that each time you publish a new entry, it will automatically be registered in Safe Creative.

Suggestion: Once registered, you can include the HTML code of the registration tag in the article itself, which will link directly to the corresponding information page. In case of using automated registration, you will also have a generic tag, which will inform about all the registrations."

If you wish to register only the design template or the graphic elements, you can upload the registration file that contains the template along with the images and other components of the work. When making the registration, you can indicate the "Artistic" category for electronic and multimedia pages. If the development of the web also includes programming code, you can register the entire set as "Project - Software" or register the design and programming separately. 

Note: 

The choice of one category or another is not especially relevant, as the work is registered and deposited in any case, and this classification serves as a guide for search and query functionalities.

The link-based registration option allows you to generate a PDF document capturing the content displayed on a public and static webpage. Once you provide the URL, our systems will open the webpage and take a PDF snapshot of everything that is displayed by default—such as an article with text, with or without images.

Follow the standard registration steps, and in Step 4 (Work Copy), select "From a website".

Important Notes:

• It is not possible to register works that require logging into a service to access them.

• This option does not support dynamic content such as videos or audio files.

• If the link leads to a file download, it will not work. In that case, download the file locally and register it manually.

• If the page is configured to show cookie notices, subscription prompts, overlays, or displays differently based on region, the generated PDF might not accurately reflect the content you intended to register. After reviewing the preview, you may proceed or go back and delete the generated PDF from the list if it doesn't meet your expectations.
  

Automatic registration from Dropbox or feed RSS

It's possible to configure your Safe Creative account to automatically register files uploaded via a RSS Feed, or folders from Dropbox.

Steps to Set Up Automatic Registration:

• Log into your account.
• Go to "Services" at the top right and select the "Automated Registrations" box.
• Click on the tab for the registration you wish to activate: Feeds or Dropbox.
• Then click on “Add Automated Registration.”
• Follow the requested steps for each case.

Important Notes:

• Dropbox: New folders will be created within the application folder.

What is Automatic Registration via Feed and How to Activate It?

Automatic registration via feed is a feature that allows you to automatically register all posts from your blog as they are published. It uses screenshots of the post link referred to in the feed and includes them in a PDF document that is registered.

Once you have clicked on the “Feed” tab, you can set up the feed by entering the RSS address, the blog address, associating the type of content, the registration profile, etc. You can register feeds of files, images, podcasts, etc., as long as the specific feed that allows access to those contents is provided.

Important Note on Automated Registration from an RSS Feed:

• Some blogs with special designs may not be suitable for complete automatic registration of works. It is recommended to regularly check that everything is being registered correctly.
• When using automatic RSS feed registrations of blogs, keep in mind that web addresses can display different information depending on the location or browser used. This can affect the appearance and availability of the information when making the registration. Additionally, if the website requires user interaction, it may not be possible to automatically access the desired information.

To protect a video game, several independent registrations must be made. On one hand, the software (source code) that supports the entire video game (as a computer program) needs to be registered, and on the other hand, the audiovisual work (art. 86 and following) that makes up the visual part of the video game, even though they are considered a single work.

Modern video games typically consist of at least two main components:

• Audiovisual elements: For example, images, video recordings, and sounds. Each one is registered in its own category (visual arts, audiovisual, and audio, for instance).

• The software that technically manages the audiovisual elements and allows users to interact with the different elements of the game. This is registered under the "Other / Software and Database Design" category by submitting the source code.

Games present a challenge when it comes to protecting them under copyright law. On one hand, the literary description of the game or the specific wording of the rules can generate copyright as texts. However, the game as a whole is generally not automatically protected by copyright, meaning others could create a similar or closely related game.

It’s important to distinguish between two aspects: the protection of individual elements such as drawings, cards, images, board design, rules, and colors, and the protection of the overall set, which includes the game’s mechanics, functionality, and rules. In this context, the original and novel aspects are key to determining whether a work is considered original.

Summary:

• In general, literary texts, image designs, figures, musical settings, etc., generate rights as individual works.
• It is recommended to register each element individually, along with an additional registration that includes the complete set of the game.
• Additionally, to protect the game’s name or brand, it must be registered with the relevant patent and trademark offices.

Depending on the characteristics of the work, and existing even different arguments amongst lawyers, it may be questionable whether a script ,TV format (a specific, structural layout and the way to locate and develop the content of the programs) or similar should be considered a literary or artistic work, and therefore deserving the protection of copyright itself. Therefore in cases where the author or creator of the format of a television show had to go to a judicial or expert to defend their legitimate rights and interests, the legal defense could be based, among others, both in existing intellectual property law and unfair competition.

Still in any legal defense strategy an effective proof of authorship is needed, so registering a script or television format in Safe Creative is a piece of evidence that provides strong protection against plagiarism and usurpations, beyond consideration of the type of work a format, television script or similar to be considered.

Based on what is known about judgments worldwide, there are developments on the TV format that, if existing, can be a clear advantage for the registrant. In general we can say that the more information and more detailed about the format we are, the better. Below we list some elements that should be ready for the registration but might be many more:

- Running order / script with the detailed and extensive explanation of the program to be done, including phrases, detailed mechanics, details on lighting, presenters, sections, times, music, setting, etc.
- Bible Pilot program.
- Recording of an example of a pilot program: This is one of the best elements we can register in order to achieve the protection granted by law. While it is important to point out that it is not always possible to create a pilot episode with all the production of the final product, it can be emulated in an mockup way, how would that future pilot program be. It is not absolutely necessary to have, for example, professional presenters or, for example, or real contestants, but it can be done, with some actors an accurate staging of an episode.
- Registration of trademarks and trade names in trademark and patent offices. This is a complementary element to the Safe Creative registration, but it will support the registration.

Except for the trademark, all other elements can be registered with Safe Creative, either by including them all in a single compressed file or by creating separate registrations for each distinct element, thus generating multiple complementary proofs.

Additionally, Safe Creative also allows users to request the registration of trademarks currently in Spain, Mexico, and the European Union, making it an ideal complement for protecting trade names linked to your format.

What are versions of works?

A version of a work occurs when we substantially modify a previous work, necessitating a new registration. To maintain traceability and know from which original work it comes, it is advisable to use this system to organize the different versions of the same work. An associated but independent record is added to the original work.

How to use it:

1. To locate the first registration of the work, click on the title or image.
2. Go to the "Actions" tab.
3. Scroll down to “Versions and related works” and click the "Register new version" button to upload the new file.
4. Review all the work’s data and registrations, and if everything is ready, click the "Register" button.
5.  

Once the version is registered, this information will be displayed on the registration page of any of the related works.

Important: The management of versions of Works is a functionality included in the services offered by "Personal and Business" subscriptions.

You can make a responsible declaration directly during the registration process of your work. During the registration, optionally, you will be asked to indicate whether the work was created with AI, partially assisted by AI, or is entirely human-created, as well as whether the content is real or fictional.

ATTENTION.
Although we do not know how legislation on Intellectual Property rights will evolve, currently, works created by generative Artificial Intelligence systems are not protected by copyright. Registration in a public or private register is merely a declarative act that does not grant any Intellectual Property rights regarding the registered works. It does certify that you, at a specific date and time, were the holder of such a work.
By marking the work as generated through AI systems, you declare to be aware of these terms.

a) If the work is already registered previously, in the registration management under "Registration" in the "Responsible declarations" section by hitting save on each button as it is completed.
b) If a work is being registered: in the registration process in step 2 of the work data.

What is delegated registration?

Delegated registration involves a type of information registration about authorship, rights ownership, or both, of a work, carried out by a representative for an author or for a client being represented.

The business subscription includes unlimited delegated registration for up to 50 representatives, clients, employees, or authors. It is also possible to increase the number of representatives at any time by contacting our commercial department: Contact us to request an expansion.

How to Add Representatives to Your Business Subscription?

• Go to the “Representatives” section found in the dropdown menu
• Select “Create New Representative”, which displays the template with the representative’s information.
• Do not forget to click “Save Changes” once you have completed it.

What is Certified Publication?
It is a service, available under the corporate subscription, that ensures a specific file (work, document, content, etc.)
is continuously accessible and publicly locatable in our directory of certified publications. By doing so, Safe Creative
generates a record certifying both the date on which the file was made available to the public and the ongoing
existence and accessibility of that content.

This service is useful in industrial and intellectual property proceedings, as it allows you to:

● Prove that certain content is not new or was already publicly disclosed.
● Demonstrate the date on which the information was made available to anyone who wished to consult it.
● Support oppositions to registrations or priority date claims before patent, trademark, and design offices.

To start this process you have to:

• Locate the work in "Registrations" or "Start".
• Click on the work management button (pencil).
• Go to the "Services" tab
• Go to the "External Services" tab, then select Register with the U.S. Copyright Office.
• Select U.S. Copyright office to open the wizard.

To register works which are in Safe Creative at USCO you need to provide us with some additional information and data. Though we already have much of the required information the rest should be provided in an assisted process.

What information do I need to provide to arrange the registration with the U.S. Copyright Office?

To carry out the registration at the United States Copyright Office (USCO) for works previously registered in Safe Creative, it is necessary to provide some additional information and data. We already have much of the information, but the rest must be provided through an assisted process.

1) Work Data

Title: title of the work to be registered. By default the system uses the same title as it appears in Safe Creative, but it can be changed.
Type of work: select the type of work. If neither type corresponds to the work to be registered, do not continue with the process, make sure is a kind of work that USCO allows to be registered through it’s electronic office, or contact Safe Creative.
Published work verification work: if the work has already been published you must check this box.
Date of first publication: if published, write the date the work was published for the first time.
Country of first publication: if the work has been published in several countries, select the first in which it was published.
Year of creation: the year the work was originally created, which may be before the date of publication or the same year. By default the system takes the year the work was recorded in Safe Creative, but since it might have been created before, you can tell the correct date here.
Standard Code Type: there are different types of standard code numbers depending on the type of content. Select any of the international standard code types corresponding to the published work.
Standard Code Number: enter here the international standard number of this published work. Note that the standard code is usually different depending on the type of work we are dealing with.

2) Authors

This screen will allow you to set the different contributions of authors to the work.
If more than one author, you will be able to specify the contribution of each.
Name, middle name and surname are taken from the existing default information in the database, but can be modified.
Country of Residence: current country of residence of the author.
If you want to register under pseudonyms instead of real name, check the box “This author uses the following pseudonym” and then type the alias you use.
You must specify which is the author’s contribution or contributions to the work being registered.
In “other” you can write a type of contribution that is not listed among the options displayed for this type of content.

3) Holders of rights

This screen shows all the record-holders of the work rights that have been stated in Safe Creative, with name, surname, address, and other information. All of them must have be previously registered at Safe Creative for this work.
Include in the USCO registration (must be owner of rights in the U.S.) this box is checked when the ownership of rights is valid in the USA.
Address 1: regular direction
Address 2: you can add a second contact address
Type of rights transfer: you must specify the type of transfer of rights that has been made. If it is “author” those are by default, but if you are not author of the work you must specify whether it is by writing agreement, by will or otherwise. If “other” you must specify which is it in the box to that effect.

4) Contact and Shipping

In this screen we specify up to two contact addresses for two different purposes:
Contact: is optional and allows that people interested in the work they see at USCO registration information system can get in touch with the person who applyed for registration.
Mailing Address: this address will be used by USCO to send you their registration certificate once finished.

5) Review and Payment

This screen displays a summary of what is going to be sent to be registered, and all the information provided to that effect. It is important to make sure everything is correct, and if not, correct it before sending.
Completing the process
Once everything is correct we must hit “finalize registration”.
At that time the system will present us a screen with the terms of use to be read. Once reviewed go to accept them by checking the bottom right checkbox.

Completion of the Process

Once it is verified that everything is correct, you are asked to "finalize registration."

A screen with the terms of use and the conditions of hiring the USCO registration service will be displayed. After reading these, it is necessary to check the box at the bottom right if you agree.

Payment for the service at the time of requesting to register works.

If you agree, you must pay the amount indicated by the assistant.

Note: Special Requirements for Registration at the U.S. Copyright OfficePayment of the service
After you give the ok to the terms of use you will be prompted to pay the marked amount by the wizard.

Special Requirements for Registration in the U.S. Copyright Office

Virtually any digital format work can be registered: literary works, videos, sound recordings, visual works, even integrated circuit designs, periodicals, and more. It should be noted that if you are working with very large file sizes (such as feature films), the version used to identify the work in the record must not exceed 400Mb.

Please check this list, if your registration file type is not included in it, you will need to convert it to one of the accepted types before registering in Safe Creative.

In the case of making a music registration using a recording of the work we have to notice that these works use to have, at least, two authorship rights to declare: Those of the author or authors of the composition and of the recording producers; those who generate the record of the music being played in a music file such as mp3, flac, ogg or similar. Also it’s very common that we also need to declare the author of the lyric of the song should there be one.

When you register a song you may specify those existing rights that might be of the same person or of different ones in some extent.

When you register a musical work we will ask you for these three authorship declarations, which you can declare in your own name or also with co-authors (from a subscription or by making an advanced individual registration, with paid features).

What does each term mean?

Author - composition: This is means the authorship of the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic composition.
Author - lyric: Of the lyric of the song should there be it. If the composition is without lyric we’ll leave this unmarked.
Author - recording: Whoever has recorded the musical interpretation of the work in the uploading file. This could be the same person who’s author of both or one of the previous items using her or his own computer, a specialized recording studio or any other person or entity. If what you’re registering is not an audio file, leave this unmarked.

What is it?

The availability declaration is a feature that allows you to indicate for each work, or for multiple works, whether the work may be used to train Artificial Intelligences. This can be specified either at the time of registration or after registration. You can choose to allow the work to be used for AI training, not allow it, or allow it under specific conditions. Metadata is included to inform AI companies that the work should not be used, as well as a declaration in natural language text.

This declaration is also included for works displayed on Creators.

How is it declared?

When registering a work: In step 2, select the preferred option in the "Declaration of readiness for AI" section.

Once the work is registered:

1. By editing the registration, in the "Registration" section, under "Declaration of readiness for AI"

2. In the "Works" section, select multiple works, click "Manage," and then choose "Declaration of readiness for AI." Select the preferred option. There is also an option to apply this preference to all works that do not yet have a selection.

Audiovisual works combine image and sound into a single piece of content, such as films, series, music videos, or documentaries. They typically follow a narrative structure or script—though not always linear—and can be distributed in various formats: cinema, television, digital platforms, or DVD. These works are usually the result of collaborative efforts involving directing, scriptwriting, acting, production, editing, music, and other creative and technical roles.

1. Log in and select type of work

• Log into your Safe Creative account and select New registration.

• Choose Audiovisual Work (e.g., Series).

• Fill in the required information: title, synopsis, language, duration, director, production company, etc.
  For other types of works, or if the production is not from an established production company, you may upload the corresponding file under the Audiovisual Recording category.

• Click Continue.

2. Define rights

• Indicate the type of rights reserved (all rights reserved or open licenses).

• Decide whether the registration information will be public or private.

3. Authorship and ownership

• Specify whether you are the Author of the work or an Informant (not the author, but managing the registration).

• With business plans, you can add more detailed information regarding rights ownership.

• Click Register to begin generating authorship evidence.

4. Optional video file upload

• You may attach the full video in low resolution or a short extract.

• Complete the registration.
