When should I register my work?
We recommend registering the whole creative process from the earliest versions, although the key and essential moment is once it is finished and before disclosing it (sending it to publishers, agents, contests or publishing it). Sharing it is when it is most exposed and when proof of authorship with an official date will be most useful to you.
Don't I already have the rights without registering?
Yes. Under the Berne Convention, copyright arises on creation. Registration is voluntary, but it gives you solid proof with a certain date to demonstrate your authorship if a dispute arises.
Does it protect the plot or the idea of my novel?
No. Copyright protects the written work —its specific form—, not the idea or the plot in the abstract. That's why it's best to register the finished text.
Can I register a work written by several authors?

Does it work if the work is published in other countries?
