What do I need for complete and thorough protection of an architecture or design project?

To make sure the protection is complete, it is essential to register the work before making it public or sending it to third parties. Include as many descriptive elements as possible: complete technical plans, descriptive reports, renders, digital models and material specifications, so that there is no doubt about the scope of your original authorship.

Which products can be protected as industrial designs or models?

The aesthetic appearance of almost any industrial or handcrafted product can be protected. That ranges from singular architectural elements, façades and street furniture to interior design, packaging, textile patterns and typefaces. What matters is that they are novel and have individual character.

How are industrial designs and models protected?

These designs are first protected by registering their authorship (copyright) on platforms such as Safe Creative, which gives you proof of creation with a certain date. For exclusive commercial protection, they must then be registered as an Industrial Design before the corresponding patent and trademark office (such as the OEPM in Spain or the EUIPO in Europe).

How do I register two- and three-dimensional designs?

At Safe Creative you can upload files in the usual formats of the industry. For two-dimensional designs (plans, sketches, patterns) we recommend high-quality PDF, DWG or high-resolution images. For three-dimensional models (mock-ups, product design) you can include several rendered views (JPG/PNG), explanatory videos or package the 3D model files in a ZIP archive.
