THE MORNING NEWS

The cold of the news in the morning
Has put all my worries aside
My wife’s still with me, I’m not lonely
My kids are so healthy and well.
Both my parents are old but surviving
And my brother has not lost his job
We’ve got some petty cash for our whims though
That old mortgage is due to be paid.

We’re not in the news in the morning
And those are just very good news
My children’s school hasn’t been shot
By no crazy man with a gun
My son has not been tempted by drugs yet
And my daughter has never been raped.
There’s no Flood to be worried about though
There’s no need to be careless at all.

All the morning news I’m unfolding
Makes me feel a fortunate man
All those little things life’s bestowed me
Seem so huge that I’ve got enough for my soul.

The cold of the news in the morning
Has made me a great lucky man
I haven’t been killed I’m not wounded
And most of my friends are alive
We’ve been touched by no outrage, no hijack
We’ve been saved by the grace of some god
We’re released like the lamb in the mountain
We’ve not been sacrificed for our thoughts
