From an early age, we are primed to compete, accumulate, and prioritise self-interest, modelling our ambitions on systems that echo the principles of the board game Monopoly: winner-takes-all. Based on the thesis The Monopoly Effect by Urs Beck, Distopoly™ explores this pervasive influence, revealing how monopolistic and competitive structures shape not only economies but also our minds, neural pathways, and capacity to empathise and connect with one another. These workings have quietly moulded our minds and narrowed our vision of a shared future. Through an interdisciplinary lens that integrates neuroscience, social psychology, and ancient wisdom from the Abhidhamma Pitaka, Distopoly™ unveils how these systems shape our everyday lives.
