ROMANCE IN TIMES OF WAR is an adult Sapphic historical fantasy/speculative thriller. It serves as the first instalment of the planned EURYDIKE SAGA, a title referencing the theme of “looking back”—just as Orpheus lost Eurydice by looking back at her, the protagonist, Ellie, is constantly haunted by the “gaze” of her past and the fear of losing those she loves to the “darkness” of her world.

Eleftheria—known to the modern world simply as Ellie—is an “Eternal” daughter of war, an immortal warrior who has survived almost every major conflict in human history, only to wake up gasping for air and ready to fight again. After centuries of blood and loss, she lives by a strict protocol: move often, trust no one, and never get attached.
Her arrival in Sydney to take a position as a literature professor was supposed to be a quiet “re-start.” Instead, she encounters Amelia Delaney, a woman whose blue eyes and defiant spirit awaken a dangerous, long-buried recognition—an echo of the fragments of all the lives Ellie has loved and lost across the centuries. Despite her instincts, Ellie tries to resist their magnetic connection, maintaining a slow-burning tension to protect Amelia from her dark reality, even as she manages her secret family—her immortal son and tech operative, Akeem, and her protégées, the twins Kero and Naledi.
The peace is shattered when Millennium Industries (MI), an organisation hell-bent on capturing and weaponising the “Eternal,” tracks Ellie down. When MI kidnaps Amelia to use as ultimate leverage, the ancient Greek warrior within Ellie returns, absolute and unforgiving. She must lead her team on a high-stakes tactical rescue mission through a maze of shipping containers at the Sydney docks. But as the bullets fly and the blood flows, Ellie realises that saving Amelia will cost more than she ever anticipated—forcing her to expose her impossible identity, while inadvertently leaving Amelia’s family shattered in the crossfire.
