About the work
Lyrics: A murmur in the night
When the lights go down, and the city sleeps,
There's a murmur that’s not the river or the seas.
It doesn’t make a sound, yet you can feel it there,
On the skin of those who can’t find rest anywhere.
It’s a whisper soft, but it burns so bright,
Like something lights up far away tonight.
And it comes back to us with gifts and news,
Like that old friend bringing the past in hues.
And in that murmur, hear the piano play,
Slowly, tiptoeing, in the dreams that stay.
The band joins in, a dixieland delight,
A song forgotten, yet it feels so right.
Born from the river, from the slaves’ deep pain,
From far-off cities, through the thick terrain.
A melody that pulses, resonates and flows,
As if it’s always been, from the highs to lows.
And in that murmur, hear the piano play,
Slowly, tiptoeing, in the dreams that stay.
The band joins in, a dixieland delight,
A song forgotten, yet it feels so right.
Whispers in the night, dancing on the skin,
Echoes of the past, where the dreams begin.
