perfect shapes that hold no breath,

Floating with your snorkel,
your little rubber duck in tow,
drifting on the Mariana's rim,

Beneath the bright and gentle blue,

a flickering light, a haunting face,
a creature beautiful and true.
Mystical, cold, terrifying,
sacred, almost surreal,
it calls to you in silence,
from a depth you’ve yet to feel.
But you'd have to let go,
leave the shallow behind.
Dive in with no anchor,
no safety to find.
It’s not fear of me,
not fear to feel…
It’s fear of the mirror
and the truth it reveals.
