About the work
I was twelve when I had a dream,
A boy held my hand for all to see.
My friends just laughed, called him my guy,
But I was mad—I swore it was a lie.
Then I woke up and saw him clear,
Something ‘bout him pulled me near.
Not the kind you’d call real fine,
But his fire made him shine.
He was the sun, burning bright,
Drawing us all into his light.
Didn’t know me, didn’t care,
But I loved him from somewhere.
Years went by, I held on tight,
To a love that was never mine.
Quarterback king, guitar in hand,
A rebel heart, a one-man band.
Everyone wanted to be his friend,
And I was just a face in the wind.
Watched from the back, never spoke,
Every glance was just a joke.
And though my heart was on the line,
He never saw the love was mine.
He was the sun, burning bright,
Drawing us all into his light.
Didn’t know me, didn’t care,
But I loved him from somewhere.
Years went by, I held on tight,
To a love that was never mine.
And time went on, I learned to see,
Love ain't real if it's just me.
If they don’t feel, don’t pretend,
It’s not a story—it’s the end.
He was the sun, burning bright,
Drawing us all into his light.
Didn’t know me, didn’t care,
But I loved him from somewhere.
Now I know, now I see,
Love should go both ways for me.
So if you’re holding on too tight,
To a love that’s out of sight,
Take a breath, let it go,
The real thing will let you know.
