About the work
He slips away every weekend night,
A lover waiting in motel light.
With every touch, with every sigh,
He writes down words she’ll never find.
(Let me write you, at your back)
I just wrote a little verse.
You are my love, but it's intense
(not going for it, not going back!)
He once believed in something more,
But love’s a game he won’t endure.
It fades like tamarind on the tongue,
Bitter, sweet, then over and done.
(I just wrote a little verse.)
(You are my love, but it's intense)
So he runs, and he hides,
Lets his heart turn into lies.
Pens his verses on her skin,
But never lets the truth sink in.
She is real, safe and near,
No more waiting, no more fear.
He swore he’d never play pretend,
Never say “I love you” if it’s not meant.
But it’s easy to drown in something whole,
'Til it smothers, 'til it chokes.
And so he crawls back to the start,
To empty sheets and caged-up art.
Where words are weapons, dressed in steel,
Hiding pain he’ll never heal.
(I just wrote a little verse.)
(You are my love, but it's intense)
So he runs, and he hides,
Lets his heart turn into lies.
Pens his verses on her skin,
But never lets the truth sink in.
She is real, safe and near,
No more waiting, no more fear.
(not returning, not going back)
He won’t let her read his name,
His words are locked behind the flame.
He’d rather vanish, disappear,
Than face the ghost he left in tears.
And there's nothing to be ashamed!
So he stays where nothing breaks,
Where love is something he won’t take.
Just a body, just a face,
No poetry, no high-stakes fate.
(I just wrote a little verse...)
(I will erase it, it's too intense)
Every weekend, just the same…
