About the work
Once, beneath a sky so wide,
the sun would watch, so warm, so bright,
but it was never you, not quite,
just shadows cast in borrowed light.
To open my eyes, to widen my view,
a bitter truth, yet somehow true.
Wounds too shallow, thoughts too deep,
pull me where the echoes weep.
I never believed in the end,
not in death, not in fate,
not in gods that turn away,
or flames in hell that rise too late.
But the greatest lie we lived,
was thinking we’d survive the fire,
now the sky begins to spin,
and I fall into desire.
Maybe we were wrong, maybe we were blind,
maybe love was real, but lost in time.
Maybe war was never worth the price,
maybe we should have thought—
before we rolled the dice.
The clock runs thin, the pain fades fast,
if I could speak, if I could ask—
would the world have changed if we had stayed?
Or was it written, was it made?
The wing is burning, the earth calls near,
I take your hand, though you don’t hear.
The wind is screaming, but I just breathe,
one last whisper before we leave.
Maybe we were wrong, maybe we were blind,
maybe love was real, but lost in time.
Maybe war was never worth the price,
maybe we should have known—
before we paid in life.
I watch the sun, the clouds, the sky,
your silent touch, your glassy eyes.
And as we fall, I say your name—
I’ll see you soon… beyond the flames.
