About the work
The first time I considered building a Cafe Racer, some years ago, my knowledge of mechanics was more than limited, I had no idea of design and of course I did not know the regulations regarding motorcycle modifications in Spain.
The result: a '79 Ducati Forza painted and upholstered by myself, almost impossible to drive and of course not authorized to circulate in any city. I had to sell it for parts because the damage could not be solved in any other way.
After Afortunada, as that Ducati was called, came many more. Many hours of training, failures and victories, and above all many hours in the workshop. Hours dedicated to what I liked the most, restoring and transforming motorcycles.
I love what I do, and I love to tell you about it. Through this book I want to help you not to make the same mistakes I made when I started, but above all, I want to show you that you can do it.
You can choose a bike to be the base of your Cafe Racer project, you can design your dream bike yourself, you can get the elements and mount them on the chassis, and finally you can get everything to work perfectly.
I want to show you that all you need is a toolbox, a small space (even a storage room) and lots and lots of enthusiasm.
I am not a mechanic, although I admire them wholeheartedly. Thanks to listening to them I have learned much of what I know, but, like doctors, they sometimes speak in a language that is very complicated for us common mortals to understand.
I'm going to tell you how to build a Cafe Racer, but I'm going to tell it to you as if we were having a beer in the bar next to the workshop, with words that everyone can understand, because that's what this story is about, bringing the transformation of motorcycles to people like you and me.
This is the beginning of the road, are you coming up?
