EXPOSED WITNESS

About the work

1975. Pat (15) kills his mother's abuser, a prostitute who lives with him in a bungalow in Denver, Colorado. 1985. Pat participates as a driver in a bank robbery. His sidekick kills a sworn guard and tries to kill him to take responsibility for the murder, but Pat saves his life, although he is wounded in the shoulder. The police arrest Pat and offer him protected witness status in exchange for testifying at the trial against his former sidekick and the mastermind of the robbery, a wealthy Denver businessman. Pat refuses the offer but ends up accepting it when he is the target of a failed attempt ordered by the businessman. Under the tutelage of Lieutenant Adams (55), Pat is sent to Boise (Idaho). There he will work in a campground and will have a new identity. At the campground he befriends Jacob (60), a black ex-convict who is now a night guard, and Jane (25), the waitress at the campground cafeteria who has a five-year-old daughter. After being assaulted by her abusive husband, Jane kills him. Pat helps her and disposes of her corpse. Pat's former cronies from Denver locate Pat and drive to the campground to kill him. In turn, Jane's husband's two brothers plan to kill her, and Pat. Jacob goes ahead and kills the two brothers, although Pat is shot and wounded. Lieutenant Adams arrives at the campsite just before Pat's former cronies kill him. Although they are intercepted by the latter on the run, Lieutenant Adams manages to kill them. He then drives the car to a lonely cabin in the Colorado mountains, where Pat must rest to heal his wound. The Boise Sheriff (50) closes in on Jacob and Jane. To avoid arrest, they flee Boise and move in with Pat to his Colorado cabin. As a result of a failed attempt on his life, Lieutenant Adams also takes refuge in the cabin. Pat, Jacob and Jane convince him to flee to Mexico. As his retirement nears, Lieutenant Adams discharges himself from the police force and accompanies Pat, Jane, his little daughter and Jacob to Mexico. Once there, they settle in a town in Baja California. Months later, Pat returns to Denver and testifies against the businessman and his former sidekick. The sheriff of Boise loses re-election because he has been unable to arrest the criminals who have plagued the city. Lieutenant Adams, Pat, Jacob, Jacob, Jane and their daughter live in harmony and peace, at last, in Mexico.
