The "alien brethren" spend a very short time on Earth, leaving behind them hundreds of hectares of land riddled with deadly anomalies. Stalkers are outlaw poachers who travel to the Visitation Zones. Some of them are looking for artifacts of alien technology, someone accompanies tourists.
Boris Kramer was ten years old when Golem's gang kidnapped him. Kramer was able to escape. His path went to the center of the Zone, and his only companion and assistant for many years was the spy robot Pony. So he became the legendary stalker named Vagabond.
In the world of people Vagabond now represents the Zone. And only Marmoset, just like many other stalkers' children, a cripple and a mutant, is able to reach out to Vagabond and to find a link between the two worlds.
