About the work
This is a story about a young married couple and though the marriage is long over, these two people, Pauline and her husband Tommy, seem determined to hang on to it.
Pauline is a battered and abused wife who pretends out of sheer embarrassment to the outside world that all is well. Tommy is a show-off and a fantasist. A man with a powerful personality who likes people to think the way he wants them to think. He decides to become part of a documentary TV programme about modern marriage and explains to the cameramen about how happy and devoted they are.
Pauline goes along with this for a while but gradually, helped along by the producer she decides to reveal just what a life of hell she is forced to live. Her side of the story is told by a voice over as we see her getting up for her early
