About the work

The Last Chance Generation, a blend of speculative fiction and travel memoirs that explores the authors experience as a Latin American Federal executive while weaving together climate anxiety, comedy and action. This book encourages the young audience to engage responsibly with nature through the story of Branca, a young Latina living in America with climate anxiety, and her pen pal, Daria, a Cuban resident - one the daughter of a Senior executive for the EPA and the other, a sea turtle camper in Cuba determined to leave the country one day to work as a scientist.

The young girls embark on a life-altering journey they wish they could erase when they get caught by border officials in this heist full of humor and cultural comedy.

Unlike the technical books on climate science, The Last Chance Generation contains many what if elements irresistible to readers: climate anxiety, comedy, saving extinct animals and tempering with nature. I believe this manuscript will be an important book to engage the future generation in science, climate and the Latin America.

A lot of the scientific points in this story, however, are based on the curriculum /standards that EPA and scholastic created earlier on in my career as a senior climate change adviser for the EPA targeting this younger audience...see link below for reference:

The story focused on Branca’s journey from struggling with eco anxiety to finding a way to connect positively with others and enjoy life while remaining committed to her environmental activism.
