About the work

For over two hundred years, there’s been an intimate connection between America and France. France helped America win its independence in the Revolutionary War. American idea then helped ignite the French Revolution.
A century later, American artists flocked to Paris, inspired by the French Impressionists, and a generation later Lindbergh linked New York with Paris. The French capital and city of light has for more than a century been considered the monarch of global cuisine.

But is is still true? America and other countries in recent years have been giving France a run for their money. So who deserves now to wear the crown.

Introducing Quest for The Crystal Dish. A World Cup of competing chefs, but with the people in each country – not the food experts – deciding who will advance, and who ultimately will clinch the Crystal Dish.

In this first of a series which could later bring in other countries, a World Cup, it is an inter-continental battle: France vs America.

Long live the Land of The Free! Fraternité, Liberté, et Haute Gastronomie!

Each week, a young or a well-known chef from each country makes a dish classic dish from his or her country before a crowd of everyday citizen, who are then invited to sample both dishes and judge for themselves which chef has made, in their view, the better dish. So... it’s not the chef’s their reputation at stake, the honor of their country is at stake.

In this Inter-Continental Cup of Fine Dining, dueling chefs France and America face the same number of “citizen judges” in each city. One week its France, the next its America. The chef whose dish “wins” the hearts of the most locals present wins one point for his or her country in the competition. Just as in the US system, in which popular and electoral college votes are considered, in this series the final vote includes the votes of all the individual citizens in each episode, plus the total “episode wins” each country has garnished. Just because a country has won more episodes than the other, that doesn’t mean they’ve won the coveted Crystal Dish. So it’s anyone’s guess who will take the prize in the final episode.

Taped in Paris and New York, the final all participating chefs from the competition assembled to discover which country has won the Golden Dish. Profiles of chefs and their amusing, often touching experiences competing in their own country and the competitor’s are lead to the final revelation of the winner of the Crystal Dish.

The winner may receive the Crystal Dish from their own country’s First Lady.
