About the work

This paper discuss the manufacturing of plant-mineral hybrid nano-compounds at the size of nano-particles (Bio-polymers) for its use as textile dye, using all natural raw materials. The bio-polymer thus manufactured improve colorfastness values, especially crocking and color intensity, expands the range of natural colors incorporating non-natural dyes, provides advantages such water and energy savings, and adds to these characteristics, the traceability of the pigment by incorporating a ceramic marker at the time of the reaction, and antimicrobial capacity (antibacterial, antifungal and anti-odor).

A new way of dyeing fabrics using a mineral metamaterial (a geopolymer) created with palygorskite/sepiolite and mineral pigments such iron oxides and/or silicates. The process include the photo-excitation of mineral pigments with UV light and the melting of both components at high temperatures (250ºC or more), the micronization of the blend to a nano-size and the exposition to UB and IR wavelenghts.
