Anton van Dyck : Retrato ecuestre de Sir Robert Rich, II conde de Warwick.
Resumen :
El modelletto que presentamos se enmarca en las propuestas que el pintor Anton van Dyck realizó a sus patronos y comitentes de sus obras, para la ejecución de los retratos definitivos de las grandes obras de representación por las que el artista consiguió fama y reconocimiento.
Entre los grandes nobles ingleses que recabaron los servicios del artista encontramos a Sir Robert Rich, II conde de Warwick, para quien realizó dos de sus mejores retratos durante su estancia en la corte inglesa. Desconocemos si además de los dos retratos de gran formato conocidos, Van Dyck llevó a cabo otro sobre las bases de este modelletto, pero lo cierto es que no se ha localizado ninguna pintura que se corresponda con el mismo.
La importancia de esta obra radica, por un lado, en que nos sirve de acercamiento a la técnica utilizada por el artista en la elección de sus modelos representativos y el conocimiento de los medios utilizados por el pintor para la obtención de la conformidad del comitente con el proyecto encargado. Por otro lado, siendo una propuesta de un futuro trabajo, excluye toda intervención de su taller, mostrándonos uno de los primeros pasos del artista para la configuración de sus grandes retratos.
Summary:
The modelletto that we present is part of the proposals that the painter Sir Anthony van Dyck made to his employers and commissioners of works for the execution of the final portraits of the great representational works for which the artist achieved fame and recognition.
Among the great English nobles who enlisted the artist's services we find Robert Rich II, Earl of Warwick, for whom he made two of his best portraits during his stay at the English court. We do not know if in addition to the known large-format portraits, Van Dyck carried out another on the basis of this modelletto, but the truth is that no corresponding picture has been found.
The importance of this work lies, on the one hand, in that it serves as an approach to the technique used by the artist in choosing his representative models and the knowledge of the means used by the painter to obtain the agreement of the client with the commissioned project. On the other hand, being a proposal for a future work, excludes any intervention in his workshop, showing us one of the first steps of the artist for the configuration of his great portraits.
