Susie and Paddy adore each other yet they cannot be together. Susie's father does not approve. They each marry the wrong person. Susie seeks Paddy's help once her husband Richard becomes violent. He obliges and they keep up their friendship. When their partners die they eventually get together and Paddy takes on Susie's children as his own.
