High school trombone player, Susan, struggles to find her identity as a young woman in the rapidly changing social structures of the late 1980s in the USA, while she also navigates her way through the rigors of Marching Band. But when she’s confronted with the real life perils of homophobia, misogyny, parental abandonment and her first major crush, Susan realizes she has much more to offer the world than others have given her credit for. And she is able to help her friends and foes find the best version of themselves as well.
This is a Band is an audio series that explores life in and late 1980s high school marching band, through the eyes of a young woman and trombone player, Susan. The series is based on the creator's own experiences as a band kid in the 1980s.
