The true story of those who secretly helped America the most in its quest for Independence. This is the story of the Basque trader Diego de Gardoqui, heir to a prominent merchant family in Bilbao, Spain, who with the secret support of King Carlos III of Spain and his principle ministers in Madrid, permitted Gardoqui to leverage longstanding relationships and friendships with such lengendary American forefathers as George Washington, John and Abagail Adams, Ben Franklin, John Jay, and Arthur Lee to secretly help the Americans survive initial British attempts to quell the Americans quest for independence, and then during the Revolutionary War quietly launched their own military forces, while simultaneioulsy finajncing the military might of the French so that the United States could once and forever secure its independence from Britain. At the center of all this was one man and his family, who inspired America´s forefathers with the democratic history of his own people in northern Spain, and who personally put evertying on the line to help his American friends achieve what his own people had known for over 500 years. This is the story of two countries, three peoples, and a shared love of liberty and democracy.
