Synopsis:
En un futuro cercano, la sociedad ha quedado dividida en dos bloques claramente diferenciados y delimitados en el espacio de cada uno de los pueblos y ciudades de todo el mundo: el barrio rico y el barrio pobre. Carmen es una adolescente que vive con su padre en una vieja casa de la zona pobre. El Padre, debido a un accidente, perdió la capacidad de andar, situación que intentan ocultar al resto de personas, ya que el padre piensa que de saberse todos considerarían que su hija está desprotegida. Así pues, es Carmen la que sale todos los días de su casa para buscar trabajo y/o algo para comer. Tanto al salir como al volver, Carmen conversa con Cloti, la vieja indigente que vive en la plazuela frente a su casa. Cloti ayuda en lo que puede a Carmen y le da el mismo consejo que su padre: “nunca vayas al barrio rico”. Antiguos compañeros del padre, descubren el estado de invalidez en que este se encuentra y amenazan a la adolescente. El padre se enfrenta a los dos hombres con mortales consecuencias que cambiarán para siempre la ya precaria y miserable vida de Carmen.
In a near future, society has become divided into two clearly differentiated and demarcated blocks within each one of the cities and towns all over the world: the rich neighbourhood and the poor neighbourhood. Carmen is a teenager who lives with her father in an old house of the poor area. The Father, due to an accident, can no longer walk, which he tries to conceal from the rest of the people, as he thinks that, if it became known, everybody would regard his daughter as unprotected. It is therefore Carmen who leaves home every day to find work and/or something to eat. Both when she leaves and when she returns, Carmen holds conversations with Cloti, the impoverished old woman who lives on the square in front of her house. Cloti helps Carmen as much as she can and gives her the same advice as her father: “Don’t ever go to the rich neighbourhood.” Former friends of the father discover his State of disability and threaten the daughter. The father faces the two men with deadly consequences that are to irreversibly change Carmen’s already precarious, miserable life.
