About the work
Citizen X is a thriller set in the lesser-known
immigrant underbelly at the heart of London,
about two stateless and desperate men willing
to do anything to survive. Shop worker Raju is
desperate to help out his brother who is stuck
in Russia, and when a regular customer arrives
with a winning lottery ticket, the penniless
Raju’s morals are tested when faced with the
answer to his prayers. Bala and Tariq are in the
shady business off physically scarring
immigrants, to stop them being sent back
home to further ‘violence’. But they are about
to encounter their own set of problems when
Bala gets Tariq’s girlfriend pregnant and one of
their ‘jobs’ gets a little out of hand. As the
characters’ lives intertwine differing sides of
immigration and those affected come into
light.
