About the work

A mythical tale of a mute young girl called Yam, who lives in a faraway isolated land inhabited by an exiled group of people. The biggest sin in this village is to speak of the past. And only the four ‘Guardians of the sacred water well’ know of this past and the dangers of knowing where they came from and what had happened. Yam’s mother dies inexplicably and according to the law, Yam has to partake in a ritual of erasing the memory of her mother’s existence in seven days along her father Abra and her grandfather Sefro who is one of the guardians of the well. Her father Abra, who is a loyal villager aspiring to become one of the guardians someday, urges her to submit or else there’ll be consequences. but Yam doesn’t want to let go, she wants to keep the memory of a lullaby her mother used to sing her. The lullaby tells the tale of a boy with blue eyes born mute in a faraway land, his people intends to expel him for being different, but the boy meets a strange bird that takes him to far away beautiful river, which when he looks upon the face of its water he starts singing. Yam believes that one day she will meet the bird that will take her to the river and bring her voice back. Yam’s disobedience creates a ripple effect that eventually unlocks the concealed past, which puts her relationship with her father and everything she knows to test.
