When I was 8, my father, the owner of a doll company, designed my favorite doll – she was tall, thin and with impossible measurements. It was the greatest success of the company and my father became a millionaire. Little idea did I have at the time that, thirty years later, that doll would become the perfect incarnation of everything I most hate.
My name is Shonda Curtis, I’m 35, modern, a feminist, the inspiration behind the doll that caused most cases of childhood trauma over the last thirty years. My sister Lucie, however, is its perfect representation. Day and night. I love Lucy, I won’t deny it –she is lovely, her children are perfect, her house is spotless, she has a traditional husband… The exact opposite of my unconventional family.
Lucy and I love each other, but we can’t stand each other. And the worst thing is that the two of us have to manage together the family business. I am determined to use the company to change the dolls and thereby change the world… But… What if the world refuses to be changed?
