Fofolandia was in a valley surrounded by wonderful hills, with fields of sunflowers that looked like brushstrokes of paintings by a famous painter. As I looked at that "screen" stretched across the land, I felt a little more joyful in my heart. As I walked through the sweet curves of the road, I delighted to see the sky, which changed clothing so to speak, was very early and distracted by that spectacle of colors, slowly and unintentionally I arrived in that village.
And so begins the story of Fofolandia - the Land of Sweet Cotton Trees in the hills and the meeting between Mr. Brown, former teacher of art education with Mr.Urso and his faithful helpers. Mr.Urso runs the family company, Fofex Corp., the only company located in this village that will be 200 years old in a few days' time. In this lost village in any unknown part of the planet, Mr.Urso and his collaborators do the best work in the world, they distribute poetry.
The main concern of this wonderful, fluffy and huge Plush Bear is to help children dream through reading. So he travels the world in a hot air balloon along with his helper Simon, a 6-year-old boy who plants poetry. Mr. Bear showers the world with a special rain that serves to make poetry grow sweet and soften hearts. The balloon, different from normal balloons, is not guided by the winds but by the beating of your heart. In his travels Mr.Urso tells children stories, that is, within the main story we have other stories that are told to children who live in complicated situations in an attempt to help them to dream.
To celebrate this important event that will be celebrating 200 years, Mr. Urso meets with his staff composed of Capitan Leone (lion), Mr. Miauyovisk (cat), Mademouselle Fyffy (Canadian seal), Miss Fofolette (chinchilla), Bob (a mouse designer), Simon a very clever little 6-year-old and so many mice working in the Fofex Corp. library. The goal is to put in motion some activities that aim to increase the desire for reading and consequently feed the processing centers of the emotions, as they are such that keeps Fofolandia alive. Obviously to give life to all the activities that will be carried out worldwide, Mr. Bear must bring to Fofolandia the four responsibles of the Fofex Corp branches around the world: Mr. Pliplinik (clown), Clelly (a young woman who runs an orphanage), Mr .Twist responsible for a nursing home and Debra (a retired art education teacher who reads for the blind.
Seeing Mr Brown's disbelief at the power of words, Mr.Urso invites him to spend a few days in Fofolandia, and this is an opportunity for Mr. Brown to know a little more about himself. The story unfolds in 6 main stages: the flower garden, the garden of words, the forest of sunflowers, the hospital, the orphanage, the home for the elderly and a recording studio for audio books.
With every trip Mr Brown makes with Mr. Bear the thing that intrigues him most is to think about what makes a six-year-old boy alone in a place like Fofolandia. Only at the end of the book, when will be announced the opening of the world campaign: The thousand and one nights of reading - if you want to fly, read, is that Mr. Brown will understand why the strong feeling that already knew those people and will know the truth about the boy who has a milk mustache over his lips every time he sees this one take breakfast or snack.
