The first contacts with programming languages are never easy, specially for first-year students,
which haven’t developed structured mathematical routines. Hence, they have frequent troubles
in understanding what is going on in a program and why or when do things happen. Although
the best way of dealing with such symptoms is personal work, instructors usually find them-
selves providing the students with a large number of solved examples than might enhance the
comprehension of the students. This task is tedious and time-consuming. Moreover, instructors
frequently have problems to find exercises and examples which are rich and diverse enough to
shed light on every aspects of a basic algorithmics or specific programming languages. This book
serves as supporting material to beginners by briefly reviewing the theoretical contents of basic algorithmics, as well as
by providing them with extensive examples on the use of the Pascal programming language.
