Quote from the band: "It's a bit more sci-fi than what you typically do[...]"
"The Artwork is based on a trilogy of songs we wrote for this album. Here's the story so it can give you some more ideas: The basic story begins thousands of years in the future, where a supercomputer, operated by a mysterious and unknown group of ancient beings, takes the minds and consciousnesses of warriors from all throughout the universe, transfers them into electronic data, and uploads them into a massive database, which are in turn downloaded into an ever-expanding robot army, growing every time a new planet and its warriors are conquered. Every time the robot warriors die, their memory is updated in the database and re-downloaded into a new robot, leading to an unending cycle of death and battle for the enslaved minds. In the second song, the Resistance, who possesses their own robots, but no means to power or use them, manages to sneak a virus into the computer's database that causes every re-downloaded robot to instead download into their own robots, but an unexpected glitch ensures that this time, once they die, it is permanent, and the two armies viciously battle on as their numbers become more and more diminished. In the third song, there is one last warrior standing, who decides to take revenge for the centuries of carnage and destroy the computer and the ancient beings who operate it. He battles his way across planets and galaxies to the place where it is stored, only to discover that the keepers of the computer have long since died out, thus denying him his revenge, and it ends with him drifting away into space with no hope and no future, and only an eternity of nothingness to look forward to. It's a real Starcraft/Warhammer 40K ultra-violent sci-fi epic![...]"
"[...]The main character of the third part, the Immortal Warrior as we call him, wielding a triangular shield, a futuristic gun and a shoulder-mounted cannon, leaps forward out of the horde of robots on the opposite side of a battle-scarred field towards the opposing robot army. Fire, explosions, and the occasional mushroom cloud tear apart the mountains in the background underneath the stars and planets in the sky above.[...] We were thinking of a dark, hellish, shadow-and-fire color scheme, with lots of warm reds, oranges, purples, yellows, etc."
"We're definitely looking for something humanoid in shape[...] We also had the idea of also giving him a handheld weapon, like a jagged, chainsaw-like sword.[...]"
"I've also included album covers by the bands Dismember and Voivod, from which I was hoping you could incorporate some of the spiky/jagged elements of the images to give it a little more of an aggressive/dangerous look. (Perhaps not as dark or brutal-looking, tone-wise, but definitely with a little bit of the sharp/edgy look to it.)"
