About the work

In a world divided by a wall, two opposing ways of life and systems coexist: a techno-capitalist city based on financial control and economic performance, where Michael and Susan, privileged members of the system, live; and a community in an eco-village without property or hierarchies, where the collective comes first, where their daughter Emily lives.

After a climate collapse devastates the city and part of the capitalist system, the community organizes a rescue expedition. Susan is saved, while Michael remains in the ruins, clinging to his former identity and to a system in decay.

Susan tries to adapt to a collective life, where affection is not exclusive and value is not measured by productivity. Michael, instead, begins a journey toward the natural world — a total detachment from the human and a return to the essential condition of living beings. An instinctive regression begins, until he dissolves as a human subject. Eventually, he is rescued by the community.

Neither of them manages to integrate into their new life. Susan returns to the city, to the old system now completely dominated by technology and artificial intelligence, confronting the emotional emptiness of an even more dehumanized world. Michael is no longer recognizable; he returns to life in a world that is destroying itself, without walls.
