About the work

Bachelor's experimental thesis after apprenticeship in Laser Beam Welding (LBW) under the supervision of Prof. Antonio Ancona.

During the activity, the LBW has been real-time non-invasively investigated through optical spectroscopy to obtain informations about the dynamics of laser-matter interaction and to optimize the process. The goal of the project (in collaboration with University West of Trollhättan (Sweden)) has been to develop an hybrid sensor which is able to recognize the presence of defects in the welding seam or a possible misalignment of the laser beam from the joint in real time, in the particular case of butt welding of zero-gap joint (gap<0.2 mm), simultaneously using spectroscopic techniques and high-speed camera vision based keyhole sensing.
